The son of a Banks Holdings Ltd. employee has received a scholarship from the beverage conglomerate to pursue tertiary studies.
The recipient of the BHL Educational Scholarship is Nichel Maycock, son of Steve Thornhill who is a Delivery Driver with B&B Distribution Ltd, a subsidiary of BHL.
Eighteen-year-old Nichel is currently pursuing his Bachelor’s Degree in Economics and Accounting at the University of the West Indies. A former student of The St. Michael School and the Barbados Community College, Nichel admitted he is “feeling quite overwhelmed” by his feat.
Dad Steve is thrilled with his son’s accomplishment and the gesture of his employer. “I am proud of the fact that BHL is a company that is looking out for the future development of our youth. What is good is that the scholarship was a Banks Holdings initiative. I am also extremely proud of my son who has worked hard for many years.”
In presenting Nichel with his award, BHL’s Group Human Resources Manager, Lisa Ridley-Paul, described the occasion as a pleasure deeming it “a privilege to assist students on their quest to attain educational success at the tertiary level.”
Scholarship winners are expected to meet various criteria including demonstrating a track record of academic success and having attained acceptance into a university programme.
