The contributions of former West Indies cricketers Vasbert Drakes and Ottis Gibson to domestic, regional and international cricket were recently recognised by the Barbados Labour Party’s St. James North constituency branch.

The accolades and appreciation presentations came during a fun day at the Sion Hill Community Centre and Playing Field in St. James where sporting activity, including cricket, football, dominoes, tennis, zumba, and other social exploits featured throughout an exciting day.

Adults and children had a grand time, not only with the sporting activity, but with the karaoke, face-painting, line-dancing and tent-jumping attractions.

Candidate for the constituency and host of the event, Edmund Hinkson, made the presentations of the plaques and commended the two for their contribution to cricket in the Caribbean.

Both Drakes and Gibson, who recently successfully managed the victorious West Indies Cricket Team at the International Cricket Council’s Twenty20 Championship in Sri Lanka, are products of the Sion Hill area.

Gibson’s award was presented to his mother, Betty Gibson, in his absence.
