Super Centre gets new boss

Executive Chairman of the Neal & Massy Food Retail Business Unit, Frere Delmas is pleased to announce the promotion of Neville Brewster, Operations Director at Super Centre, to the position Managing Director of that company.

Brewster will take up his new post from October 1, 2012, following the retirement of David Neilands from that position.

As Managing Director of the leading supermarket chain, Brewster will be responsible for, among other duties, the efficient management of all operational, financial, human resources and information technology systems within the company to achieve the desired goals. In addition, he will be required to provide leadership and strategic direction in the development and execution of company plans as well as to lead the on-going integration process of the company into the Neal & Massy Group.

Brewster brings 27 years of diverse business experience to this position, 14 of which were with the BS&T (now Neal & Massy) Group. He first joined Super Centre Limited as Operations Manager in April 1998 primarily to ensure that all aspects of the supermarkets’ operations were positioned and managed in a manner aimed at maximising sales and increasing margins. Within two years, he was promoted to the position of Director of Operations and part of his increased responsibilities was to assist the Managing Director in the planning and execution of annual budgets as well as to evaluate and establish standards and guidelines for the company’s production departments.

In 2005, he was seconded to Peronne Manufacturing Limited as General Manager for a two-year period. There, he was responsible for the efficient running of the meat processing facility by providing overall direction, coordination and evaluation of all manufacturing units as well as establishing standards for controlling expenses, reducing wastage, ensuring quality and safety, among other aspects. In March 2007, he returned to Super Centre to resume his substantive role.

Brewster, a Harrison College old scholar, holds a Masters in Business Administration with a specialisation in Marketing from the Inter-American University in Puerto Rico as well as a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting from the University of Puerto Rico which he gained as a result of an athletic scholarship. Last September, he also completed a Future Retail Leaders Development Programme at John E. Anderson Graduate School of Management, University of California. Brewster is also fluent in Spanish.

A sports enthusiast, Brewster enjoys playing golf, road tennis and soccer.

In announcing his appointment, Delmas expressed confidence in Brewster’s ability in managing the company, noting that Super Centre can benefit from his considerable knowledge and business experience.
