Clean sweep for Licorish

Randy Licorish.

Randy “Ls Man” Licorish is the champion of the “Mud, Sweat and Gears” mountain biking time-trial event held in the wooded trails of Chaguaramus, Trinidad and Tobago, over the weekend.

Following his clean sweep of victories earlier this year in the 4XFour-Cross time trial, four-cross and cross country on June 30 in Lancaster, St. James, Licorish made a clean sweep of the three time-trial events held on the wet and slippery trails of Chaguaramus and led each race from start to finish from a field of thirty-five competitors.

“I didn’t come here to lose, I was just focused on the race and knew that I had a job to do,” Licorish stated.

Derrick Frederick, director of 4XFour Cross, who placed 16th overall stated: “Interest in mountain biking is growing in Barbados, it’s an adventure sport. We are seeking to have at least one major event, a downhill race, before the end of the year. Updates will be placed on our website”

Barbados’ participation in the “Mud, Sweat and Gears” event is part of a developing relationship within the regional mountain biking community which commenced with the participation of Trinidad and Tobago and Martinique in the 4XFour Cross mountain biking event in Barbados. Afterwards, the invitation was extended to race in the twin-island republic and further invitations have been extended to race in Martinique in 2013.

Licorish and third-prize winner David Villarsin from Martinique, who also raced in the 4XFour Cross race in Barbados, both donated their prize money towards purchasing bicycles for needy children in Trinidad and Tobago, compliments event organisers Rainbow Triathlon.
