Speedsters set to drift

Steve Bruce and Corey Stanford will be part of the Drag Warz action.

The Barbados Association of Dragster and Drifters’ Drag Warz Series continues on September 22 from 3 p.m. until 9 p.m. at the Bushy Park, St Philip Racing Circuit.

This event, part four of the series, is expected to be “The Clash of the Titans” as Steve Bruce in his Mitsubishi Evo 3 is hoping to make his return to competition after being sidelined with serious clutch problems. With the new clutch fitted, it is expected that he would be making an attempt to break his current record time of 7.114 seconds. He may however have his hands full in trying to accomplish this feat, since Matthew “DMZ” Forde has plans of fitting a new roll cage in his attempt to be the first regular member of BADD, to dip into the six second territory with his Mitsubishi Evo 3.

Not discounting the valiant efforts of these two consistent drivers, the possibility is very great that if Dwayne “Shabba’ White in his

Toyota Corolla AE 86 does make his expected return, he will be the man to beat.

Good performances are also expected from points leader David Hobbs in his Mitsubishi Evo 8 MR, Shoy Gumbs in his well prepared Daihatsu Charmant, Edward St. John in his Toyota Starlet, Corey Stanford in his Toyota Corolla AE 86, Noel Pilgrim in his Mitsubishi Cyborg and Jason Downey in his Toyota RunX.

One of the highlights expected to unfold on the day of the event once both competitors are able to come under starter’s orders, will be the showdown of the Suzuki Swift GTI’s of Shawn “Short Man” Eversley and Kevin Griffith. Both cars were impressive at their last outing and this time around, with a few tweaks being made by both drivers, it should turn out to be nothing less than a drag racing delicacy for all to partake in.

Courtesy Garage is again expected to give four spectators the opportunity of having the

experience of drifting around the circuit with none other than Geoffrey Ullyett and Andrew Jones. In addition, BADD for the first time, is planning to have a time attack demonstration, which is a discipline that they are expecting to introduce during their 2013 season and to put the icing on the cake, the top five drivers from the 2012 Automoto Dexterity Competition, will be invited to do a drifting demonstration, as well as guest appearances by some of the top rally drivers in Barbados.

Persons interested in competing at the event are asked to note the deadline for registration will be 12 noon on September 21 at Motorsport Services, Haggatt Hall. The briefing meeting will be held at 6:30 p.m. on the same day at the Wildey Gymnasium and drivers are advised that practice will run from 12 noon until 2:30 p.m. on the day of the competition. (PR)
