WI women off to England

The West Indies Women’s cricket team flew out of Barbados today for their tour of England.

Trinidad and Tobago wicket-keeper Merissa Aguilleira captains the squad which will face England in a five-match T20 series from September 8-16 at Durham, Old Trafford, Northampton, Hove and Sussex respectively.

The matches will serve as warm-ups ahead of the ICC World T20 Tournament, which bowls off at Galle in Sri Lanka from September 26.

Among the West Indies team are world number one all-rounder Stafanie Taylor, the first woman to be shortlisted among the top five ICC Cricketers of the Year, and other recent West Indies Cricket Board Regional T20 tournament standouts including Taylor’s Jamaican teammate Shanel Daley, Barbados pacer Shakera Selman and veteran

Vincentian player Juliana Nero. West Indies will face New Zealand, hosts Sri Lanka and

South Africa in a tough group for a place in the World T20 semi-finals.
