Fraser: Amend bill
Independent Senator, Dr Henry Fraser, sees the need for amendments to the Catastrophe Fund Bill.
Fraser threw his support behind Government’s decision to amend the Bill while speaking in the Senate on Wednesday afternoon.
He queried why the regulations were not provided in 2007, and took the current administration another four years before it was brought to Parliament.
The independent senator further queried why the fund could not be accessed and sought information on the number of applications that were submitted.
The retired university lecturer expressed disappointment at the use of such words as pillage and plunder and called for less dramatic language.
He feared that if this level of behaviour continued Barbadians may see scenes similar to those in the Russian parliament where parliamentarians resort to fisticuffs.
Fraser suggested that the level of debate in the Senate Chamber should be of the highest standard.
