'Thompson was selfish'
Former Cabinet Minister, Joseph “Johnny” Tudor reminded Barbadians that he had warned them against conferring high political office on the Democratic Labour Party during 49 platform presentations over the years.
Addressing a mass meeting at Sayes Court, Christ Church, recently, the former parliamentary representative for St. Michael East said the party had many factions. He suggested that Thompson could have had a vendetta with the people of Barbados because they had kept him in opposition for 14 years.
He charged that the late Prime Minister only sought to satisfy his long-held ambition of being Prime Minister without any thought for the people.
Tudor said that history would show that from its settlement in 1627 until 2008, Barbados was well managed. He accused Thompson of imposing over $100 million in taxes on Barbadians thereby increasing the cost of living. He further accused the DLP of increasing the cost of living by removing the subsidy from diesel.
On the other hand, Tudor said a Barbados Labour Party Government always increased the disposable income of workers so that they could buy what they wanted. He accused Thompson of harassing non- nationals from Guyana and St. Vincent and the Grenadines during his brief tenure. He said too that he could not sleep because he was concerned about what was going on in the country. (NC)
