Barbados lost their chance of doing the double when they suffered a 76-run defeat to the Windward Islands in the West Indies Cricket Board’s Under-19 One-Day Tournament at Kensington Oval today.
Batting first after losing the toss, Windward Islands compiled 227 all out in 49.3 overs and in response Barbados were dismissed for a disappointing 152 in 38.3 overs to end their hopes of adding the one-day championship to the three-day title which they secured last week.
Barbados won the toss and elected to field, restricting Windward Islands to 227 runs in 49.3 overs. Leg-spinner Aaron Jones was the main man with the ball for Barbados, picking up six wickets for 15 runs off his five overs.
Gridon Pope and Keone George opened the batting for Windward Islands and they soon lost the wicket of Pope when he was caught by wicketkeeper Carlos Maynard off the bowling of fast bowler Akeem Jordan for 10 runs. This brought Jerlani Robinson to the crease to join George and the pair pressed on nicely before Robinson was trapped lbw for 16 by medium-pacer Marlon Welcome-Goodman.
Tarryck Gabriel came in at number four and played some lovely shots. He looked quite assured but almost against the run of play was trapped in front the wicket by off-spinner Neil Persuad for 30.
Junior Henry joined George who had batted solidly from the start of the play.
