Tropical Depression #9

The Barbados Meteorological Services is monitoring the progress of Tropical Depression #9.

At 11:00 am today the center of tropical depression #9 was located near latitude 15.1 north…longitude 52.8 west or about 475 miles…765 km to the east north east of Barbados.

The depression is moving toward the west at near 20 mph…32 km/hr, and this general motion is expected to continue for the next couple of days.

Maximum sustained winds are near 35 mph…55km/hr…with higher gusts and some strengthening is forecasted during the next 24 – 48 hours.

Estimated minimum central pressure is 1008 mb…29.77 inches.

On this present track the center of the system is expected to pass about 180 miles or 290 km to the north of Barbados around midday tomorrow Wednesday 22nd August 2012 .

By this time it is likely to be Tropical Storm Helene.

Although this system will not directly impact Barbados , some associated cloudiness and showers will spread across the island tomorrow.

This department will continue to monitor the development of this system and will be issuing further statements on its progress if necessary.
