GG patron of Heart & Stroke Foundation

The Heart and Stroke Foundation of Barbados has announced that Governor General Sir Elliott Belgrave has consented to be its new patron with immediate effect.

He follows in the footsteps of former Governor General, Sir Clifford Husbands, who demitted office in October 2011.

“The directors of the Heart and Stroke Foundation and I are delighted that the Governor General has agreed to become our new patron. We look forward to welcoming him at our headquarters in the next few weeks. The Governor General knows well the dangers of heart disease and stroke, and will become a part of the fight against these two scourges of modern life,” said president of the Foundation, Humphrey Metzgen,

The foundation has also announced the election of four new directors to the board. They are chartered accountant Almroth Williams, business executive Anne Reid and medical doctors Winston Batson and Rudolph Delice.

Metzgen said the foundation was fortunate to have gained the services of four highly experienced and dedicated professionals, “especially at a time when non-communicable diseases are impacting the health of Barbadians”.

The Heart and Stroke Foundation, located at Laydmeade Gardens, Jemmotts Lane, is a registered charity dedicated to assisting citizens with recuperating from the chronic ailments of heart disease and stroke and pursuing a healthy lifestyle.

The foundation operates a cardiac rehabilitation gym at its Jemmotts Lane headquarters staffed with registered nurses. Customers also have access to a dietician and doctor.
