by 86 runs

BCL Juniors defeated Dominica Schools by 86 runs today at Friendship, St Michael as the Sir Garfield Sobers Under-19 Schools International Cricket Tournament continued.

In slightly overcast conditions BCL Juniors won the toss and elected to bat first and made a very respectable score of 235 all out in 34.1 overs.

It was a good day generally for BCL Juniors’ batsmen as a number of them contributed double figures to the score.

Roshon Primus top scored with 44, Shakeel Richards scored 42, Tevyn Walcott chipped in with 39, Kyle Hinkson notched up 35 and Dario Boyce scored 23 runs.

There was a solid 82-run third-wicket partnership between Richards and Hinkson that helped BCL over the 200-run mark.

Dishon Joseph took three wickets for 50 runs in six overs for the Dominica Schools while Joshua Callender also took three wickets for 50 runs in 6.1 overs.

Dominica Schools were in early trouble when they went to the crease to respond to BCL Juniors. They lost two wickets in the first over off the bowling of Jamaine Prophet, who ended with three wickets for 22 runs in five overs.

Off-break bowler Dario Boyce also ended with figures of three for 23 runs in 3.3 overs and Mathew Greaves ended with two for 33 runs in eight overs.

After 11 overs, Dominica Schools were 51 for five and things did not look promising for the visitors, but thanks to a seventh-wicket partnership of 78 between Perkasie Jon Lewis who made 76 and Dishon Joseph who made 31, they carried the score to 149. Their efforts were simply not enough in the end to get them a win over BCL Juniors however. (ML)†††
