Sunjet Toastmasters celebrate silver anniversary

The Sunjet Toastmasters Club celebrated its 25 anniversary with its annual Banquet and Awards Ceremony at the Accra Beach Hotel and Spa last Saturday.

The Toastmasters organisation is devoted to making effective oral communication a world-wide reality and developing outstanding leaders in society.

Minister of Tourism Richard Sealy, while delivering the feature address, dialogued with the audience on leadership and communication in a very inspiring and thought-provoking address, in which he identified some of the characteristics of good leaders and the importance of developing tenacious leaders in society.

The minister lauded the club’s efforts in this sphere and encouraged the further expansion of the educational programmes is offers.

During the banquet the new executive for 2012-2013 was installed. It comprises Sonja Goodridge (President), Louis Griffith (Vice President, Education), Kamille Benjamin (Vice President, Membership), Dionna Browne (Vice President, Public Relations), Marilyn Charles-Lopes (Secretary), Carol Gaskin (Treasurer) and Cheyenne Jacob (Sargeant-at-arms).

Another highlight of the ceremony was the presentation of numerous educational awards, including the coveted Toastmaster of the Year title, which was awarded to Competent Communicator Cheyenne Jacob. Jacob has already distinguished himself as an outstanding orator, having won the International Speech Contest at both the Barbados and District (Caribbean) levels. As a result he will represent the Caribbean on the world stage at the 81st Annual Toastmasters International Convention in Orlando, Florida this August.
